Already Gone

I just started reading a book called "Already Gone". It's about the epidemic the church is facing, the probablity that the next generation will not be willing or able to keep the church going as we know it. The book challenged me to look around the church this morning. 2/3 of the children in the room will not be in the church by the time they go off to college. That's right, most of the kids who leave the church do so in middle and high school. Only 11% of kids leave the church in college.

What can we do about this? I am not to that part in the book, but I have looked ahead a bit. The first thing is Sunday school. This shouldn't be a time for the kids to hang out, hear a cute story, eat a snack, and do a worksheet. How can we make this time more fulfilling and use it to teach the kids, even the tiny ones, what the truths of God really are? As I read this book I am excited to learn how I can be a better teacher to my 2-4 year old class. That is a really young age, but I know in my case, I was a youngster in Sunday school at that time. Stay tuned for updates!
